As a senior advisor to RAP’s team in Europe, Jaap Burger focuses on smart charging of electric vehicles and the policies that maximise its potential for a decarbonised power market and grid. With his extensive experience in charging infrastructure and grid integration, he helps advance regulatory solutions in Europe.
Burger started in 2010 in the field of electric mobility rolling out charging infrastructure for the city of Amsterdam. Since then, he has worked on the development and implementation of smart charging in various projects in Europe. He helped startups launch their smart charging services to customers, organised a Smart Charging Hackathon, and worked with various grid operators and public authorities on their road map and strategy for grid integration and charging infrastructure rollout. He gained valuable insight into what makes smart charging work through his technical expertise and experience from the perspective of grid operators, cities and market participants. Most recently, he contributed to Amsterdam’s plan for emissions-free mobility by 2030.
He holds bachelor’s degrees in political science (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and German (Universiteit Utrecht) and a master’s degree in intercultural communication (Universiteit Utrecht).
